Lincoln Employee Raises Money to Support Wounded Veteran
A severely wounded veteran of the war in Afghanistan is confidently regaining his independence with the help of Lincoln Financial Group employee Ashley Gioia and other members of the community.
Cpl. Greg Caron, a Marine from Hartford, Conn., was severely injured when a roadside bomb detonated near his station while serving in Afghanistan last November. With both of his legs severed below the knee, the corporal is now working to recover, learning to walk on prosthetic legs and adjusting to the new challenges in his life. His strength is unwavering though; he is determined to walk under his own power and keep his spirits high.
To help with the costs of rehabilitation, the Hartford community has rallied around the veteran, hosting multiple fundraisers, including a bake sale Ashley organized that raised more than $2,000.
“The Carons are a great family who have always helped people and the town. They’re involved in the church, the community, the school, athletics. We know they’d do the same thing like this for any other family,” Ashley said. “The turnout was unbelievable. Hundreds of people. Uniformed military showed up…People are so generous.”
I am absolutely THRILLED that this has spread to the corporate level of my job. Someone here read the article in the Hartford Courant and sent it to the LFG Corporate Office. This article was published in our Newsletter which is sent out to every LFG Employee. That's tens of thousands of people-- it's all about raising awareness. We just have to keep spreading the word!!
Best wishes, Ashley xoxo
